God is working through this blog to share testimonies of those who love Him. This blog will also chronicle the journey as my husband Elijah and I move across the country and adopt foster children as Christians.

God wants me to spend my energy loving my husband Elijah, not dreaming about my next meal.

God wants me to spend my energy loving my husband Elijah, not dreaming about my next meal.

When I was a binge eater and yo-yo dieting, I used to watch the clock as every minute passed by. I strictly scheduled my meals and snacks. No matter where I was, I always ate at the same time, even if it inconvenienced others.  I would schedule social activities, time with Elijah, and even doctor’s appointments around my meal times so I didn’t have to change my food routine. Nothing got in the way of my food, my precious food!

This created an attitude that was highly focused on myself. My needs, my wants, my preferences. I spent so much effort worrying about what time it was and when I got to eat that I had little energy to care for others.

True joy comes from Jesus, not pizza.

True joy comes from Jesus, not pizza.

But that was before I accepted Jesus and learned that a life of loving Him is so much more rewarding than watching the clock, waiting for my next meal. Now as a Christian fitness coach with Joyfully His Fitness, I view food as nourishment, not as my sole source of happiness.

“You are an ambassador for Christ now,” Elijah told me, citing 2 Corinthians 5:20. This means that I represent Jesus in all my actions, and I what I do reflects back on Him. This means that I need to start thinking of others and being kind to others, not the exact second that I can start eating.

Now, I let God tell me what time to eat. I trust Him to tell me when I’m hungry and when I’m full. I am no longer a slave to the clock. This gives me the freedom to enjoy my day and life focusing on loving others and traveling through America with Elijah. I have so much to live for besides mealtime!

What is something you look forward to today?

“Therefore, prepare your minds for action; be self-controlled; set your hope fully on the grace to be given you when Jesus Christ is revealed. As obedient children, do not conform to the evil desires you had when you lived in ignorance.”

Mountaintop workout!

Mountaintop workout!

When I was a binge eater and obsessed with food before I accepted Jesus , exercise was about punishment for eating too much. But that is in the past.

Now, I love my job as a Christian fitness coach with Joyfully His Fitness. God has given me the chance to help women make real transformation through fitness, while growing in His love together.

I appreciate the flexibility of the online workout programs. My clients and I can exercise anywhere... and I do mean anywhere, including outside our RV where my husband Elijah and I live, currently parked on top of a mountain (the video is playing on the laptop on the table). I have to say that being surrounded by beautiful pine trees and open blue skies made the last few reps of the workout seem a little more bearable!

Where is a unique place that you have exercised?

2015 blast from the past!

I found this photo of Elijah and I celebrating our 7-year wedding anniversary in Dana Point, California.Who knew that just four short years later, we would have left our corporate jobs, sold our house, bought a discounted used RV, and started a journey to travel America! And that God would lead me to begin a new business as a Christian fitness coach with Joyfully His Fitness Though it may seem like a lot has changed, Elijah is still the love of my life. One of my favorite activities to do with him is still to take walks in beautiful locations. In fact, when we’re 80, I hope we are still taking the same pictures ... we may just have a lot more grey hair!

I will never forget how Elijah told me I was beautiful and saw my heart even when others called me “fat” in college. He dated me when I was at my heaviest. Ladies, a real man will love you for who you are, not who the lies of the media or other people say you should look like, or what clothing size you should be. I pray to God to always help me remember to be grateful for the gift of my husband.

What is your ideal romantic date?

The Bible is God’s love letter to us.

The Bible is God’s love letter to us.

My mom gave me a lovely notecard that reads: “God... creator of everything beautiful!”

Even though Elijah and I are traveling the country in our RV and are many miles away from my mom, this notecard reminds me that God’s love connects us across the distance.

The notecard also has a picture of a lighthouse, which reminds me that Jesus is our guiding light and salvation, illuminating the way back into His loving arms through any turmoil.

Space is limited in our RV and we don’t have many decorations, but this notecard had to come with us! I love you, Mom! There is a verse about us in the Bible: “For you created my inmost being; you knit me together in my mother’s womb.”

Sing it loud and proud!

Sing it loud and proud!

Through my business as a Christian fitness coach, I have connected with believers around the world who encourage others in faith. One woman is Madeline, the founder of My Lamp Blog. In a recent post on the  power of worship, she writes how praising God, even when we don’t feel like it, lightens our heart.

I completely relate to this! Living in an RV and traveling America, it is a challenge to get mail on the road. Due to an error at the Colorado post office, many of our packages were confiscated this past week. I was so frustrated! Then I read the post from Madeleine.  I began blasting “Yes and Amen” by Chris Tomlin. As I sang, I remembered how many blessings God has given Elijah and me. Also, God reminded me that one package that did make it through was an essential part that Elijah needed to repair the electrical wiring on the RV.

When I made the choice to be grateful instead of complaining about the mail, God rewarded me with peace, and my heart was full of love for Him and the beautiful life He has given me with my husband as we travel America together and I run my own fitness coaching business  with Joyfully His Fitness in this opportunity of a lifetime.

Thank you for reminding me of the power of worship!

As a Christian fitness coach with Joyfully His Fitness, I surround myself with positive women. I like to listen to the “Praying Christian Women” podcast when I do my makeup.

In 32’, we have to get along!

In 32’, we have to get along!

In one episode, the hosts discussed the phrase “praying for someone.” What exactly does that mean anyway? The hosts suggested taking a Scripture verse and putting in that person’s name.

As Elijah and I travel America in our RV for the next year, he is my sole constant human daily companion. I fall in love with him anew and learn to rely on him.

I took my prayer from Psalm 90:17 and put in his name: “Father, may your favor rest on Elijah. Bless and establish the work of his hands and his heart.”

Thank you Praying Christian Women podcast for inspiring my prayer for my husband.

I commit to a strong prayer life, not only out of my devotion to God but also as a commitment to best serve my clients and fellow coaches as a fitness coach with Joyfully His Fitness.

I had ordered a copy of a prayer devotional called “The Prayers of a Warrior Queen” from my fellow sister Monique Reid. She had personally signed this copy for me and raced to her local post office to send it priority mail to me in Colorado where Elijah and I were traveling.

Nothing can stop the power of prayer, not even the USPS!

Nothing can stop the power of prayer, not even the USPS!

If you have been following me, you know that last week we had huge complications with receiving our mail at the local post office, and nearly everything was confiscated. I feared that the devotional would be sent back as well.

When we got to the post office on July 29th, I wanted to cry in frustration at the counter as I once again  watched them mark package after package as return to sender. But what was the only thing they allowed to be placed into my hands? The devotional!

Suddenly I didn’t care about any other of the “stuff” that I had ordered. Those were just things. I didn’t need them. I had the affirming power of the devotional backed up with Scripture in my hands!

I began the devotional right away. The verses and Monique’s encouraging narration lifted me up and inspired me to pray with purpose and power. I am no longer upset about the other packages because God sent me the only one I needed!

 Our faithful God provides always!

“But my God shall supply all your need according to his riches in glory by Christ Jesus.”

Sunset stroll in Brighton, Colorado.

Sunset stroll in Brighton, Colorado.

Still feeling nauseous from all the ice cream, chips, and pizza I had eaten, I looked at my tennis shoes and tank top with dread. I had eaten several meals of junk food all on my own, in secret, at 2am. I felt bloated and guilty from the thousands of calories that I hadn’t even tasted. Was it even worth working out?

That was the old me. That was before I accepted Jesus in 2016 and He poured His unconditional love and grace into my life.

Now as a Christian fitness coach with Joyfully His Fitness, I view exercise and food as gifts to keep me strong and healthy. My clients and fellow coaches are in day four of a 100-day Gracecamp and full of motivation!

Whenever I start to worry that I’ll fall back into my old habits again, I read the Bible with Elijah and God reminds me of the Truth. Nothing and no one is stronger than God! Elijah prayed with me from Luke 10:19: “I have given you authority to trample on snakes and scorpions and to overcome all the power of the enemy; nothing will harm you.”

I prefer to exercise in the morning because that is when I have the most energy. But even if I don’t have time, my morning prayer is non-negotiable. Just a couple minutes thanking God for His blessings and reading a few Bible verses sets a positive tone for my whole day.

A relaxing stretch feels nice!

A relaxing stretch feels nice!

If you’re short on time, start reading Psalm 119 for as much time as you have.

I no longer start the morning with guilt and shame. Jesus washed all that away.

I thank God for my new life in Him and for my fellow Christian fitness coach teammates!

Note: We stayed at a couples driveway in Brighton, Colorado through Boondockers Welcome, which is kind of like VRBO except instead of renting your house, you rent your driveway for free. Anyone with a big enough driveway can sign up!

Elijah and I just bought a minivan! Purchased for $2,000 on craigslist from a grandfather in Colorado who has driven several generations of kids thousands of miles in this van, it will give us freedom as we travel America!

Living in our RV has been a fun adventure. But at times I have felt a bit isolated in our remote campsites, as it’s hard to drive a 32-foot RV into town for errands. In fact, there were numerous times when Elijah and I had to turn down invitations to church services and Bible studies because it would have been too hard to drive the RV there. We made the best of it and instead used the time to have our own couple time together. But having the van will allow us mobility and freedom. And one day, if God wills, we will fill it with our adopted foster children.

Here is my prayer:
”Dear Father, Please help me to remember that this van is a gift from you. Please let me remember to be grateful for it and to use it to take me to meet people that I can treat with love and kindness to serve in your name. Let this van take me to the people you want me to meet so your love and life can pour through me to them. Dear Jesus, thank you for dying and taking our sins away. In your name I pray, amen.”

Mini family reunion

Mini family reunion

When Elijah and I officially launched our tour of America in our RV, as we planned our route through Colorado,  one stop on our itinerary was non-negotiable: Aunt Marilyn’s home in Brush! As a bonus, our cousin Jenny and her husband and son were there during our visit too.

Even though we didn’t know Aunt Marilyn that well while we lived in California, she warmly opened her doors, cooked us dinner, and made us feel at home. We parked our RV in her side yard and came into her home as the central location for family meals and gametime, including indoor miniature golf (fortunately, we didn’t break any windows!). As you recall, in the last town we had major problems in the getting our mail at the post office, so Aunt Marilyn even let us use her address so I could receive some expected packages.

After living on the road for over a month, it was lovely be welcomed... and to take a real shower.

I praise God for Aunt Marilyn’s generosity, warm heart, and hospitality.

And I didn’t even need to put quarters into the washing machine for it to work!

“And do not forget to do good and to share with others, for with such sacrifices God is pleased.”
